Describe, Deduct, Speculate.
This knee length dress consists of two parts, the black straight cut dress and the cropped white blouse with ruffle detail at the cuff and neckline. The black dress alone is quite a simple piece as it doesn't have a lot of detail as it is a similar cut to a slip dress but with thicker sleeves. The deep v in the front gives some detail allowing the white blouse to come through underneath. The fabric looks like a weighty polyester but I feel that it is meant to give more of a woollen look. The white blouse is a soft floaty fabric that is quite sheer. The double ruffle around the cuff adds detail and is tied together nicely with the ruffle along the neckline. There is a contrast between the sheer white blouse and thick black dress.
I feel that this dress would be quite comfortable to wear as the fabric looks soft however I don't think it would keep you warm due to the sheerness of the blouse underneath and the short length of the actual dress. I think as the dress is quite loose fitting and doesn't hold much structure, it would probably be comfortable to wear however the ruffled neck may be quite uncomfortable if it sat too high up as it would irritate your neck.
I can see from the label that this dress is from Primark but I think even without seeing the label you could tell it is an affordable high street piece from the quality of the fabric and the stitching that is not as good in some places. If it was a high end piece you would expect the sewing to be very precise and the fabric of a better quality. I feel that this piece would probably be worn either quite casually of a day, perhaps paired with tights in colder weather, or it could also be worn as work wear as it is quite smart and the monotone colours give it quite an office wear feel.
