My MoDA Piece

When exploring the MoDA website I was drawn to the Ephemera page as I think looking at things that physically existed in history and had a purpose is really interesting as you get more of a realistic idea of the past. I found I was drawn to this particular Christmas card by Charles Hasler as I think its such an unusual Christmas card. It doesn't particularly look festive and even the word Christmas is small and hard to read which I think is so unusual because now a days you would never see a Christmas card like this. I really like the intricate detailing in the border as well as the link between the cross hatch design on the hot air balloon and the lettering. I think despite the card being quite simple and minimalistic in its layout, the actual designs on the card are very detailed which I think works really well as a contrast. Overall, I think it's really interesting to see how Christmas cards over the years have changed and developed to how they are now and to see how even the fonts, colours and designs have changed through time.ephemera
